"Itsy-bitsy spider... went out and grossed big bucks! "
If you haven't watched Spiderman 2, then what are you waiting for??? Lift up those heavy buttocks and line up for chrissake! I think all of the cinemas in greenbelt are showing this film. Of course, my movie buddies and I, lined up for the first screening day and lo and behold, I still have that spidey song in my head.
Of course, the opening act... there was this cute promo by Ambi-pur wherein there was this brief commercial asking if you know the scent of green tea.. and as I was making out what the letters on screen were - I heard the sound of hissing air (I don't know how to describe it, like bicycle tires losing life - air). Then, a nudge told me to look at the aisle and there were two ladies wearing cute short skirts (hmmm.. I should try that job in the near future)... and spraying Ambi-pur (psssssssssssstttttttt).... leaving a trail of heavily scented mists on top of their heads. Well, that was a cool and smart marketing promo.
On with the show, I think I did not bat an eyelash throughout the duration of the film. It was a whirlwind of colors, effects and good acting. Tobey Maguire was really destined to play Peter Parker! That sensitive, vulnerable persona can really get on to your skin. I liked the crappy, loud, obnoxious Mr. Jameson (the editor for the daily buggle) (gosh i don't know if i got the name right). And of course--- Dr. Octavius.... Gosh... talk about having eight arms to hold you. I really liked what he said about brilliance and intelligence as being a privilege, a gift to be used for the good of mankind (hmm... a little bit of messianic complex there).
There's also talk of poetry, need for heroes that make this movie unique. Although there are "cheesy" scenes, the creators can get away with them because we are really thrown off the reality of life and right into a Marvel comic-book. The laws of nature do not apply. Although people with feminist orientation might find this movie a little chauvinist and bustling with masochistic subliminal message (men being heroes and villains - using women as bait, damsels in distress-- although Aunt Mae showed a lot more spunk and chutzpah than MJ).
Right now, I am waiting for a pirated copy from original DVD and also for the anticipated SPIDERMAN III :)I love Dr. Octavius (gosh,,, I really have a knack for liking mysterious and insane villains). I wonder what he can possible do with all of those arms to a girl!!! WAHAHAHA!
