A Changed Perspective

Change is an inevitable part of life, that I am sure. But the
tortured musings of someone trying to hold on to what is gearing to move on
can be a heart wrenching sight. A beloved who would not let go of a
lover's hand while his life is slowly ebbing away, a friend who is
unwilling to accept the personality shifts, and drifting apart due to
changes in lifestyle and personhood of the kindred spirit that she holds
dear and an old man who nostalgically looks at past medals, recognitions
with mental images of himself during his prime when the world was his
oyster, now looked upon as a relic of the man he once was are images of the
victims of unaccepted changes.

There is this inherent tendency of a person to cling to something
familiar and sturdy. A tendency to avoid the changes that accompany the
rhythm of one's breath in the interplay of life and our preconceived
created reality especially if the now is filled with so much happiness,
success, love and contentment. One might wonder, "Why is change necessary
when all is going well? ". But alas, all things, both good and bad must
pass. All of these should pass.

As hard it is to recast, cling and reckon with the upheaval of
people, events and thoughts that rummage in our inner cerebrum, change is
necessary for the prevention of breakage in the tapestry of life. For to
freeze each growth, destruction, birth and death to the same pattern and
sequence renders our gift of free will, unquenchable zest for life into a
humdrum cognizance of mundane boringness that will render us lifeless and
incomplete.

But the celebration of life entails that we must embrace changes and
look forward to every uninvited and unexpected twists in our lives. The
trusty old watch will break down, your friend will cease to be there, and
the person you look at the mirror will be a memory, a ghost in the distant
future.

The secret to survive the shock that change causes is to shockproof
one's life. To be absorbers of change, to look forward and to anticipate
changes, to fit in all the variables and to expect the unexpected are just
a few of the tools one can equip one's heart and mind with. Be armed with
the realization that changes although an enemy to the complacent can be an
ally and a friend to the prepared mind and spirit. To open our
consciousness to all possibilities would us mobile to every stimulus that
will come. Study, accept, and embrace change and the changed attitude would
not leave a person short-changed in the game of life.
