Franny and Zooey - The Holdens anew
I am in a sort of literary sabbatical right now... (but I also have to study for my upcoming MBA exam) but I just can't wait to read the books that have been piling all these months. I bought this book a year ago and I have been putting its reading for awhile being busy with other books and other stuff. But when I finally had the gall to read it... it really took my breath away!
This is one the best religious books I've ever read! Franny and Zooey are siblings. A member of the infamous Glass clan known for their prodigious, savant child members. But now, in this book, they've all grown up. I can't fill in all the details but this I can tell, I haven't read a book this riveting for some time.
I would like to quote something from the Internet-
"This beautiful revelatory story is so suffused with empathy, humanity and spirituality, I had very nearly the same reaction as Franny. Zooey/Salinger has offered a way out of Franny's/Holden's/our' dilemma: the dissatisfaction with the seeming shortcomings of the world and the people around us. First, we must let go of our obsession with the failings of those around us; we can not be, nor should we try to be, catchers in the rye, trying to save or change everyone. Second, we must polish them for the Fat Lady; seek to live our lives perfectly, that we may be worthy of the audience, Christ Himself. "
Amen! And a toast for Mr Salinger!
